David Stewart is Professor of violin at the University of Ottawa. He served for many years as concertmaster of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (Norway), appearing often as soloist in this and other Scandinavian orchestras and performed with many Scandinavian chamber music ensembles. David has commissioned and recorded several new works, including Andrew P. MacDonald's Juno-award winning Violin concerto. He has participated in many festivals including San Diego's Mainly Mozart, Domaine Forget, Maine's Saeverud Festival and Finland's Sysman Suvisoitta. David Stewart is co-founder of Winnipeg's Agassiz Chamber Music Festival and the Norwegian contemporary music ensemble BIT-20, and the newly-formed Quatuor Lumière.

Achievements

Commissioning new works for violin and orchestra from Canadian composer (Winnipeg) and two Norwegian composers.

Former Concertmaster of Bergen Philharmonie, Norway.

Founder of new music ensemble "BIT 20 of Norway".

Grieg sonatas at Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival and in Norway at Edvard Grieg's home.

Working with National Youth Orchestra and with Orchestre de la Francophonie as a coach.

Concert for summer festivals such as: Agassiz (MB), Domaine Forget (QC), Bergen International Festival (Norway), Sysma Suvisoitta (Finland), Courtenay (BC), Monteux Festival (Maine).
